Poster were formed in Skegness, Lincolnshire in the late 1980’s. The line up is Robin Partridge (Lead Vocals and Guitar), Stuart Downing (Guitar, vocals) , Kevin Partridge (The Bass Guitar, vocals) and David Malkinson (The Drums).
Originally called The Shells, the band quickly became a firm favourite playing across Lincolnshire and Humberside including gaining regular slots at the famous “Adelphi Club” in Hull. A chance meeting with members of Blur in their local pub – while Blur were in their early chart topping days playing the Radio 1 roadshow in Skegness – resulted not only in a game of Darts with Damon and co but some advice that they should play some shows down south. That kick started The Shells playing a number of gigs in London in the early 90’s, including playing to a sell out crowd at the world famous “Camden Underworld” as main support to Aussie rockers “Ratcat”. An early demo was recorded of two early crowd pleasers Original and Elaborate Plan.
During this period Poster managed some airplay on Radio 1, X-FM, and were regularly watched by Londons independent A&R men. Charlatans front man Tim Burgess saw the band play during this time and commented on how much he liked the song Easel Dummy. The band also entered a competition on X-FM to find London’s best unsigned band – they reached the final and played a showcase night at the London Levis store in Oxford Street. Their track Fruitcake was subsequently included on a compilation CD “The best un-signed bands ever”.
Towards the end of the 90’s early 2000, life got in the way and Poster finally hung up their boots. Until now that is..!!
They’re back, what more is there to say, Kate Bush has done it, The Stone Roses, Blur have all got back together. Could this be Posters time, who knows..? Be part of history, come and see Poster live and judge for yourselves, wolf in sheeps clothing or the real deal..!
